The college basketball landscape is always shifting, and this week's Movement Report highlights the teams that are trending up and down. Let's start with the teams that are catching fire, shall we? Washington State Cougars are on a tear, jumping 127 spots in the 45-day rankings to #295, a significant improvement from their season rank of #168. This surge earns them the "Heat Check" label, as they're undoubtedly the hottest team in the nation right now.

What's driving this resurgence? Stifling defense and efficient offense have made them a formidable opponent in the WCC. They're cooking. The USC Trojans, Syracuse Orange, and Lipscomb Bisons have also improved their 45-day rankings by over 100 spots. The Marshall Thundering Herd, Murray State Racers, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are trending upward, with improvements ranging from 90 to 103 spots. On the flip side, the Ball State Cardinals take the "Cold Front" label, having plummeted 143 spots in the 45-day rankings to #167.

A decline in shooting percentages and an inability to contain opponents' offenses have contributed to their struggles. Teams like Charleston Southern, Loyola Chicago, and Southern Utah are also struggling. The Georgia Southern Eagles, Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, and Western Michigan Broncos have dropped over 110 spots in the 45-day rankings. The Presbyterian Blue Hose, Longwood Lancers, and Oral Roberts Golden Eagles are experiencing a decline, with drops ranging from 110 to 114 spots. These teams need to regroup. In terms of single-week movers, the Kennesaw State Owls and Furman Paladins are on the rise, improving their rankings by 27 and 26 spots, respectively. The Prairie View A&M Panthers and North Dakota State Bison have taken a hit, dropping 23 and 20 spots, respectively.
